Heaven on Earth

GURUVAYUR is considered to be the Bhooloka Vaikunda (the heaven on earth). The idol of Sri Guruvayurappan was once worshipped by Sri. Mahavishnu in Vaikunda, who handed it over to Brahma. From Brahma it passed through the sacred hands of Sutapas, Kashyapa and Vasudeva and finally to Lord Krishna himself.

Lord Krishna had installed and worshipped this idol at Dwaraka and on his instructions it was installed by Brihaspathi (Deva Guru) and Vayu (the God of Air) at Guruvayur to enable his worshippers in this KALI YUGA to attain salvation. Guruvayur is also the place where Lord Shiva worshipped Mahavishnu.
